Youth & Mini Hockey Information

At Lisnagarvey Hockey Club we are proud to provide opportunities for more than 400 children and young people to play hockey, and are indebted to the commitment of over 50 coaches who freely give of their time to make it all happen.  Mini-Hockey membership for girls and boys at the club begins when children reach Primary 4 and continues until the end of their Primary 7 season. Youth membership begins with the Under 12 groups (Year 8) and continues through to Under 15 (Year 11), at which point we hope as many young people as possible transition into our Ladies and Men’s adult teams.  To give young children, from aged 3 (Nursery) until the end of Primary 3, their first taste of fun on a hockey pitch – Lisnagarvey Hockey Tots operates on a ‘pay as you play’ basis at various points throughout the year (sessions advertised through club social media).  For information on Youth and Mini Hockey Membership – see the membership section.

At Lisnagarvey Hockey Club we aim to create the best experiences that we can, for as many children and young people as we can, keeping as many playing for as long as we can.  We understand that children and young people are all at different stages in their development, develop at different rates, in different ways, and have different ambitions which change over time.  As such, success in Youth and Mini-Hockey is defined in the short-term as creating positive experiences of hockey, in the medium-term as contributing to the development of young people, and in the long-term to achieving sustained participation, personal development and/or performance success as adults.  For further information on our approach to hockey for children and young people, access our Youth and Mini Hockey charter here.

The current weekly timetable for Youth and Mini Hockey is changeable due to the introduction and removal of various restrictions on sport related to the Covid-19 pandemic.  However, in general, the Youth and Mini Hockey groups are training as follows:

• Monday (evening): P7 Boys; U13 Boys, U14 Boys; & U15 Boys
• Friday (evening): P7 Girls; U12 Girls; U13 Girls; U14 Girls; & U15 Girls
• Saturday (morning): P4 Girls; P4 Boys; P5 Girls; P5 Boys; P6 Girls; P6 Boys
• Sunday (afternoon): U12 Boys

*Sunday (morning): Hockey Tots (during Hockey Tots term blocks)
